We have a winner!
10.11.04 (9:43 am)   [edit]
Well, the purpose of this blog was to share news, and now we have it:

I may be the bearer of sad tidings here. I got the call and and an e-mail on Saturday that I was in the final 50. I don't know whether or not they contacted all 50 on Saturday (what a horrible way to spend the weekend), so I don't want to crush anybody's hopes. There may be more going out.

As far as I can tell, we're still not required to keep it secret. The e-mail is titled "SITUATION: COMEDY Phase 2 Packet." It contains two forms to fill out, guidelines for the short video required, and two more forms to fill out if you're in the military

To whomever posted this, CONGRATULATIONS!!!!!!!!!! !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I wish you all the best!

For the rest of us, well, we gave it our best shot, and I think we should all give ourselves credit for completing a script and sending it in…and then slink off and lick our wounds for a bit.

I think it's too early to lose hope here.

1) Sit:Com may be making phone calls over several days. Given how busy the producers are, this would make sense.

2) There's no way to verify the "top 50" comment, in that it supplied information about Phase 2 that many of us already knew. I won't say the person wasn't being truthful, but this kind of thing happens a lot on the Internet.

3) Could Sit:Com *really* have triple-reviewed all those scripts by now?

I like your optimism, but have to admit I don't share it. It wouldn't take more than a day to send 50 emails or make 50 phone calls. But that's just MHO.

Hi. I am new to this blog and found it very entertaining. My writing partner and I also received an e-mail last night telling us we were selected in the top 50. The e-mail seemed to be pretty generic and I'm guessing they wrote two versions, one for solo writers and one for teams. Given that, I would not see it taking more than an hour or two to e-mail all the acceptances. Have you heard from anyone who got rejected? Any idea about how many actual applications?

Who are these people? Did someone who has checked in here (with a name) been notified?

I mean the internet gets this stuff all the time, until we hear from someone we "know" I won't fully believe it.

Plus can someone who wins cut and paste the message?

Oh, stop toying with me! A little down this AM reading the initial report of notification, I realized this had the earmarks of a "fall of the horse, get right back on" so I put it behind me and started on a new project as quickly as I could. Then when the skeptics started musing it might be false.....

If these reports are false, it's a sad comment. I will say hats off to the first with their mention of special forms for the military (remember Josh G on American Idol?). If made up, that was brilliant.

I tend to agree with the last post. I do think the notifications probably went out and continued optimism might just be delaying the agony!

The military comment almost made me question it more. In internet hoax's they usually put lines like that. I don't doubt they probably sent out notifications, but I would wait until you get something officail (or someone really cuts and pastes a letter or something...) before you fully believe it.

I love this group. Such great support and comradre. I hope we can continue it.

I think I will start converting my television idea into a movie.

Thanks to this site for posting the news - I am pretty sure that the people who have posted are not pulling our legs. Truly- the review of all of the scripts received would take a long time (it has already) but sending out 50 emails, can you say instantaneous?

I'm hoping that Bravo has the decency to send a blanket BCC to all of the also-rans (like myself) let us down easy Bravo, don't make us wait until the commercials start airing on Bravo for us to find out we didn't make the cut.

I think Bravo will contact everyone, I mean it may take time. But if they are polite about it we are more likely to watch...so it would make sense.

I hope we do keep this blog going, I mean is anyone working on anything else? I am preparing a submission for a one act contest....

As for working on something else- the People's Pilot Competition has a November 30 deadline. I'm guessing there are about 38950 submittals ready to be mailed out!

After reading the initial post regarding the announcement of selection in the top 50 in the contest, I am very doubtful that this is legit. OK, I'm in denial, but when I read this, it raises more questions than it answers.

1) Why did this person seek out this site and post, when they had been selected? I gotta figure there is something better they could be doing rather than finding a blog about waiting for a response from Bravo and then posting on it?

2) The tone of the post is almost apologetic - isn't this person happy beyond belief? Why wouldn't they be fist pumping and bragging a little more - I mean come ON! You just came out number 50 out of 30,000 applicants, wouldn't you be a little more excited - this email seems to stick to the facts a little too much?

Yeah I don't believe that post either. Your subject line would be yippee. And the military part wouldn't be noticed.
I mean they may well have notified people but not that guy.

BRAVO Carol (pun intended)

Now thats funny! I've got fingers crossed that this was a bogus posting.

I might be in denial as well, but it seems odd that they'd notify people on a Saturday during a holiday weekend.

I just received the news this morning that I made the "50". It came via email last night. I'm glad I found this blog because I still think it isn't true and just some cruel joke. Now I just have to "sign my life away and donate a kidney or something.

Don't want to get in trouble with the show, in case they care about such things, but here is the e-mail my writing partner and I received last night (we also thought it was strange to get notification on a Sunday evening).

Hi ______ and ____!
>
> Congratulations! You have made it to Phase 2 of the SITUATION: COMEDY
> contest with your entry, ________. Attached you'll find 2 documents
> we need you to print out, complete and return to us NO LATER than Oct. 18.
> That means we must RECEIVE them by 11:59pm on Oct. 18. Each of you
> must fill out a separate application.
>
> Additionally, you'll see the application has instructions for a
> videotape, which we must receive with your paperwork. The suggested
> length for the tape is 3 minutes, and the application lists questions
> we'd like you to answer on-camera. Please also include a recent photograph of yourself.
>
> A note: If either of you has EVER served in the military, please let
> me know ASAP. All writers who make it to Round 3 are subject to a background check.
> The military procedure for background checks is quite lengthy, and in
> the interest of time, I'd like to get you some necessary paperwork now.
>
> Once again, congratulations! I'll be contacting you in the next day
> or two to address any questions. Should you have concerns in the
> meantime, feel free to call me and leave a message and I'll return it
> asap; or you can email me back.
>
> Thanks!

One other thing, the woman who notified us gave her phone number in the email. It's a ligit number.

I think this Blog would be a great place for people to talk about the show once it airs - think about it- its a place where the also-rans can weigh in on what happens on the show and what we think about the 5 finalists, the 2 selected scripts, etc. etc. - we all found this site because we have been running variations on the "Bravo TV 50 Finalists" search terms in Google, so odds are everyone here has submitted a script. If the blogger can spare the space, I'd love to make this my Sit:Com daily stop from now on...

Thanks for sending along the email - that looks as legit as us losers are going to see for now. Could you have written that yourself? Absolutely. Would you have sent a fake email for some perverse pleasure, probably. I am going to drop the denial and embrace your good fortune. Good for you and get writing and filming packet 2! Good luck - I now realize that one week to turn around the second package would be so exciting, yet STRESSFUL as the video portion would be hard for me to make. The video needs to stand out from the rest, as you know the scripts are all now considered equal in the 50 and the video interview is the way they are going to pick people.

Being online as long as I have (I was one of the first back in the early days when Gore invented it ;-) ) I know how weird it gets here, so I don't believe much until i see it. So I would still wait guys.

Carol -

Start the healing process now. I've read and reread that email submitted by Newbie - call me really stupid, or thats the real deal. The words used, the military piece, etc - its real. We can keep ourselves checking the email in box every 15 minutes for our letter or we can accept it right now.

Good luck to you newbie and your writing partner, let us know things of interest during the process - keep this site apprised to the process - to the rest of us, and we all know who we are - lets sharpen those scripts for Season 2 of Situation Comedy.

Oh I think it's possible, but I am so
leary of internet declarations. I mean if I hear it again I would believe it, like ona mesage board or something.

I agree. The sooner we each get on with working toward new opportunities, the better. Having said that, I do think Bravo should notify us about the outcome. Even if it's nothing more that a line on their web page "Hey, we've notified the 50 finalists! Stay tuned for more!" I also read the email over several times. It does seem legit, although I'm surprised that a big operation like this would pen a letter that so awkwardly slips between we and us to I. Isn't that a pretty basic rule?

I think Bravo will write back to everyone but it could take time. But it would make sense cause then we are more likely to watch etc.

Can us losers get some clarity here? Newbie (who sent along the email) are you the same person as Now What?

If not, then apparently we have 3 of the 50 winning script writing teams posting to this site - pretty amazing when you consider this site has been up for 5 days and the winners were only alerted in the last 2 days.

The "internets" is very powerful place, indeed!

Folks, I am Newbie (althought that was the default chosen by the computer), not we have a winner or Now What. One thing that is a bit disconcerting about this process, to go to the next step we have to agree to pay $100,000 plus damages if we have lied at any point throughout the contest. Ye-ow! I haven't lied, but I am not happy about being on the line for that kind of dough. Oh, and I found this site after doing a quick web search to find out if there was any kind of announcement of the top five. Thanks again . . . I really enjoy it

I, like newbie was surprised by the $100,000 "don't mess with bravo" form. But I suspect networks have been burned by "writers" before. But you know, I you wrote it yourself, and READ the rules, there should be no problem.

Hey, I got the same letter on Sunday. I talked to bravo yesterday. Congrats on making it to the next level. Feel free to email me if you'd like to get in touch and chat about progress and the videos. Hey all. I made it into the top 50 too. Many seem to wonder how we found this site. I was trying to find out how many entrants there were so I googled "situation comedy contest" today and found myself here. I wish everyone the best of luck with their shows. If anyone wants to bitch about how to answer 7 long questions in 3 short minutes -- or why they ask for peoples' weights in the application (no kidding) -- feel free to email me at correnek@yahoo.com.

They ask for your weights? Good thing I didn't make it, I'm a cow!

Congrats (begrudgingly) to those who've made it. My wife will not be happy to hear its all over for us. I still want to give being a writer a shot, but I'm not sure if she'll ever care to contribute again.
